1. A Little History
Hundreds of years ago, Forbidden Caverns was used by the Eastern Woodland Indians as a shelter in the winter, and the cave river provided a constant supply of water. From the early 1920s until 1943, this same cave was used to make moonshine. The constant water supply and isolated location made it ideal for people to make their homemade whiskey in secret. In 1964, a group of professionals began putting plans in motion that would lead to the opening of the caverns to the public. After 3 years of development, it was finally opened in June 1967.

The temperature in the caverns is always set to 58 degrees, which is relatively comfortable. However, you might want to bring a light jacket just in case you get a little chilly.
