Dollywood is preparing to open their gates for another action packed season of award winning shows, amusement rides, special events and culinary delights! One of the highlights of any day at a theme park is a spin on a breathtaking roller coaster, and Dollywood has one of the most impressive collections of action packed coasters in the world! Here are the top 4 thrilling roller coasters at Dollywood that you need to ride:

1. Lighting Rod

Lightning Rod is not only one of the most popular rides at Dollywood, but has become a favorite of roller coaster enthusiasts from across the globe! Your adventure starts with a climb 20 stories up the lift hill, when you encounter twin summit airtime hills just before taking the first steep drop! The Lightning Rod then races down the 165-foot drop and propels guests on its track to speeds reaching 73 miles per hour! If you think the beginning of the ride takes your breath away, just wait until you experience the quadruple, air-time filled hills on your way back to the station!

2. Thunderhead

Another one of the thrilling roller coasters at Dollywood that you need to ride is Thunderhead, a traditional wooden roller coaster that rumbles through the Timber Canyon section of the park! This massive ride is strategically situated between two mountains, standing tall among the trees and taking full advantage of the area’s rough and tumble terrain! During your adventure on this massive wooden structure, you’ll experience a 100-foot drop, a top speed of 55 miles per hour and a unique “fly through” the station to surprise all the guests waiting to ride!

3. Mystery Mine

Mystery Mine is a highly themed steel coaster that takes you inside of a creepy abandoned coal mine where you never know what is around the next bend! Altogether, you’ll travel through 1,811 feet of track as you encounter amazing maneuvers including a hair-raising, 95-degree, 85-foot vertical drop plunge into total darkness! Unlike the trains on most roller coasters, the Mystery Mine carts feature two rows that can accommodate 4 riders each, making it easy to ride next to your family and friends – see who can scream louder!

4. Wild Eagle

If you ever wanted to soar through the air on a majestic flight, now is your chance on the Wild Eagle! This amazing “wing” coaster will have you flipping head over heels as you fly through the Wilderness Pass section of the park! Instead of having the train on the track, the Wild Eagle features seats on either side of the track so that there is nothing above or below you! Hold on tight for your flight, as you’ll be soaring at speeds reaching 61 miles per hour as you race down a 135-foot drop and turn upside down a total of 4 times!
